One of the most transformative tools in AI-assisted image editing is background replacement. With just a single prompt, you can move a character from a forest to a futuristic skyline, or from a studio photo into outer space. This task tests how well an AI can preserve the subject’s form while imaginatively or realistically placing them in a new environment.
With Dreamface supporting both Dream Image and GPT-4o , we decided to compare how each engine responds to background change prompts using the same input image.

🧪 Test Setup
We used the same character image — a stylized forest-explorer figure — and ran it through three different background scenarios, using identical prompts for both Dream Image and GPT-4o:

🌃 Prompt 1: “Set the dog on a tropical beach with clear turquoise water and palm trees swaying.”
Dream Image: Constructs a sunny beach scene with a blue sky, white clouds, coconut trees, and sandy beaches. The colors are bright and vivid, and the dogs match the tropical beach scene harmoniously, showing a relaxing vacation - like atmosphere. The color adjustment and scene adaptability are excellent.
GPT-4o: Also depicts a beach and sea view. The color of the sea water is brighter, and the color saturation of the picture is high, making the dogs stand out in the picture. However, in terms of natural scene transition and detail richness, it is slightly less than Flux Kontext.
🏰 Prompt 2: “Place this dog in front of a glowing carnival at night, with colorful lights and a ferris wheel behind.”
Dream Image: Transforms the background into a night - time amusement park. The Ferris wheel is brightly lit, creating a lively and cheerful atmosphere. Moreover, the dogs blend naturally with the scene, and the lighting and shadow are well - handled, highlighting the AI's creativity in scene transformation and image integration.
GPT-4o: Also features a night - time amusement park background. Compared to Flux Kontext, the blurred Ferris wheel gives the picture a dreamy feel, making the dogs stand out as the main subjects. However, it is slightly inferior to Flux Kontext in terms of scene detail richness.
🌌 Prompt 3: “Place the dog in a snowy forest during a gentle snowfall, wearing a cozy scarf.”
Dream Image: Creates a snowy forest scene. Snowflakes are falling, and the trees are covered in snow. Scarves are added to the dogs, adding a warm winter feeling. The cool color tone and rich details of the scene are outstanding, reflecting the accurate shaping of the environmental atmosphere.
GPT-4o: Also has a snowy forest background with the dogs wearing scarves. The overall picture is relatively simple, and the hazy feeling of the snow creates a quiet and peaceful atmosphere. However, it is not as good as Flux Kontext in terms of scene detail levels.
